“A vulnerability is a weakness in a product that allows an attacker to compromise the integrity, availability, or confidentiality of that product”.In today’s data age where most devices are part of so called “IoT (Internet of things)”, no device is safe from malicious attacks.Smart devices like Smart door locks, Bluetooth trackers, Smart cars to name few are all connected to the internet without being properly configured. It is not a rocket science to attack those “smart” devices including devices that are not connected or have never been connected to internet.Outdated software used by companies and individuals including Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and popular web browsers like Chrome, IE, Safari, or Firefox are not safe to use when they are outdated, but people keep ignoring the vulnerabilities and use outdated software anyway. Obsolete software or legacy software allows attackers to exploit and steal sensitive information. It’s easy to infect an outdated system. Many infected devices (including smartphones) are part of botnets used by criminals for DDoS attacks or cryptocurrency mining.Cyber criminals are one thing but careless users who prefer convenience over safety is clearly the main reason why their systems are compromised in the first place. Many users don’t even bother to set a password on their PC’s/or devices, most of them have no security software installed (mainly Android, and Apple devices), or use same password for all their online activities (shops/emails/social media). It is easier to prevent an attack then clean up the mess after.
Is your Device/PC/Mac vulnerable?
Make sure you have an up to date Antivirus installed and active
Let your antivirus scan your system for any outdated software and run updates accordingly
Set strong user password/s for all your devices and never reuse same passwords
